(pls boost 🙏)
i’m looking for a fedi web frontend that will work on internet explorer 11 and look okay on a phone screen
snac’s webui works really well, but mastodon api support is sadly a must
(pls boost 🥺)
do you know a fedi client for windows phone? 8.1 is preferred, 10 is okay
so far i tried fedicen (90% of the features are missing) and i tried universalfedi (it doesn’t really work)
I created a font based on the character set of the Yugoslavian Galaksija computer! You can get it for free here:
The Heart Nebula (Sh2-190) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cassiopeia about 7500 ly away. It includes the open cluster IC 1805 in the center of the heart, as well as numerous dark nebulae. As the name suggests, the nebula looks like a heart when viewed from the side (east up, north right). The framing is a bit whacky, but I like how the center came out (see crop).

An enjoyable read, wonderfully written. And besides, it's a hopeful book. Not optimistic: hopeful. Not like "everything will be fine", but "things can improve IF we take some actions together". Thank you @pluralistic

you should have forums for your hobby / subculture / open source thing / etc., that are not discord, and that are openly accessible in HTML online. you should try to make those appear on google and be like the place to discuss the thing, if that's at all doable.
many online subcultures used to have a politeness norm of "don't ask questions without first googling it". this rule is obsolete. googling it doesn't work anymore. stackexchange is dead. it is very difficult already to find reliable information. you need to make it as easy and inviting as possible for curious people and newcomers to get used to asking human beings about the thing. this means tolerating common questions rather than replying to them like "read the FAQ/TFM/search the forum" etc.
in fact, actively establish spaces specifically meant for people who are too intimidated to ask questions. in a reddit-type forum, do "weekly quick q&a thread—all questions welcome" kinda thing (it's less intimidating to post a brief comment than making a question post). do "weekly casual chat thread" and "beginner's corner" and "off-topic fridays" and stuff like that, too.
and on the converse, actively discourage people from posting chatbot answers, through both forum rules and fostering forum culture. don't be aggressive about it but also don't be lenient.
Everyone's talking about switching to florpBSD or redtreeOS or forkyforkerLinux and whatever else such nonsense when the actual solution to literally all of our problems is just to stop using computers altogether. Look, it was clearly a failed experiment, it's time to cut our losses and walk away.
An HTTPS certificate authority has been compromised. If you want to ensure #NetBSD is not vulnerable, you can run the following commands as root:
# certctl untrust /usr/share/certs/mozilla/all/Comodo_AAA_Services_root.pem
# certctl untrust /usr/share/certs/mozilla/all/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.pem
You can review the untrusted ones with:
# certctl untrusted
